Over the past 6 years since we retired, we have put 60,000+ miles on our Roadtrek 190 Popular traveling to all four corners of this great country and more in its grand interior. In our 19 ft Chevy 3500 van "tricked out" by Roadtrek we have what amounts to a king-sized bed, flat screen TV/DVD, rotating captain's chairs, table, closet, bathroom, gas stove, fridge, microwave, and storage space for clothing, food, and pans, dishes, and more. We love it!!!
One of our first trips was to Texas where we "rallied" twice with lots of other Roadtrekkers and learned from all of them. There were workshops with lots of Q&A and lots of time to get to know other owners and to see how they had modified their RTs to make the easy life easier. That was a great learning experience. We were encouraged to buy our RT by friends, Carol and Rod, who traveled with us to TX in their RT.
Maine is a favorite of ours so we scheduled a bike tour of Acadia National Park with Vermont Bicycle Tours (VBT) for October. We thought it was described as Easy but found it was listed as Easy to Moderate cycling. It was a challenge and a wonderful experience at the same time as we rode the carriage trails originally built by Rockefeller in the early 1900s. Our lodging was wonderful on both ends of the island. Because we were in our RT, after that tour we spent more time in Maine camping, cycling and hiking and eating lots of lobster everywhere we went. Visiting L.L. Bean was another highlight.
We spent about 6 weeks of a winter going from our home in Georgetown, KY through Colorado Springs and surrounds and to the southern Utah National Parks. While there we went on a Road Scholar photography tour of 5 parks with a National Geographic photographer. Four friends flew out and joined us on the tour. We left the RT and rode our chartered bus for the Utah trip. After that we headed the RT into Grand Canyon National Park where we camped first on the north rim and then on the south rim while we explored the wonders there. Lake Powell was our next stop and then we wound down to Sedona and on down to Tuscon. We traveled east to White Sands National Monument in NM and then crossed over into Texas to spend several days at Big Bend National Park right along the Rio Grande. From there we headed north and visited my aunt and uncle in Fort Worth before returning home to Kentucky.
